Congress Sends Letter to Apple Over Canceled Show

Jon Stewart’s politically-themed show was slated to cover Chinese tech and AI in the coming season.

Leaders in the House of Representatives Select Committee on Competition with the Chinese Communist Party sent a letter to Apple after the cancellation of Jon Stewart’s latest political television show. The legislators expressed concern that it was canceled because the material planned to cover Chinese tech and artificial intelligence in its upcoming season. The bipartisan letter asked for a formal response to these concerns by December 15.

“If these reports are accurate, it potentially speaks to broader concerns about indirect Chinese Communist Party (CCP) influence over the creative expression of American artists and companies on CCP-related topics,” the committee leaders stated. “While companies have the right to determine what content is appropriate for their streaming service, the coercive tactics of a foreign power should not be directly or indirectly influencing these determinations.”

The legislators also urged the company to publish a public statement “to reassure the creative community in light of these reports… that content that could be perceived as critical of the [Chinese Communist Party] or the [Peoples Republic of China] is welcome on Apple TV+ and other Apple services.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the House select committee as they seek to ensure large U.S. companies are not engaged in censorship of speech.
  • For Speaker Johnson and House leaders to seek God’s guidance as they conduct investigatory business.
